If you live in the inner-eastern suburbs and you've had to find medical care at 11 pm on a Tuesday, you'll know the options thin out quickly. Most GP clinics close by 7 pm, telehealth lines have an hour-long queue, and the two nearest emergency departments — Box Hill and Austin — are stretched. An after-hours, doctor-led, walk-in clinic in the centre of Manningham is the alternative that has been missing.
Why after-hours access matters in the eastern suburbs
Manningham, Banyule and Boroondara collectively have a population of close to 400,000 people. Cat 4 and 5 patients across these LGAs end up in the same two emergency departments at night, alongside cardiac arrests and major trauma. The result is a queue. A purpose-built after-hours clinic for the non-critical end of the queue — sutures, sprains, UTIs, earaches — is the simplest piece of capacity to add to the system.
Where we are
Our clinic is at 19–21 Manningham Road, Bulleen, VIC 3105, between Bulleen Plaza and the Yarra. We have on-site parking, a wheelchair-accessible entrance, and a pram-friendly waiting area. The full map and parking details are on the homepage.
Who we serve — the 15-minute drive radius
The clinic was deliberately placed where it is because — at after-hours speeds, with no traffic — the following suburbs are all within roughly 15 minutes drive:
- Doncaster and Doncaster East — 5–8 minutes via Manningham Road. The closest suburbs by population.
- Templestowe and Templestowe Lower — 6–10 minutes. Many of our home visits go here.
- Lower Plenty, Heidelberg, Ivanhoe, Eaglemont — 8–12 minutes via Banksia Street.
- Kew, Kew East, Balwyn, North Balwyn — 8–14 minutes via Bulleen Road or Burke Road.
- Donvale and Park Orchards — 10–14 minutes via Doncaster Road.
- Greensborough, Eltham, Warrandyte, Box Hill — on the edge of our radius, traffic-dependent. Please phone ahead if you're coming from any of these.
What to bring tonight
- Photo ID, even if you don't have a Medicare card (we're fully private but we still need to identify you).
- Any current medication boxes or a list of what you take.
- The name of your regular GP, so we can write a letter back to them.
- A card to pay with — payment is on the night.
How walk-in works
No appointment, no booking, no online form. Just walk in. If you'd like a quick triage chat first — to find out whether your problem is for us, for ED, or could wait until morning — phone us on 0403 025 359. We do not charge for the phone call and we will tell you honestly where to go.
Common reasons people from each suburb come in
From Doncaster and Templestowe, the most common reasons are sutures and sprains — kids fall off scooters and parents end up at our door. From Heidelberg, Ivanhoe and Eaglemont, we see a lot of UTIs and earaches — the demographic skews older. From Kew and Balwyn, we see last-minute scripts and travel-related illness. From all suburbs, we see dressing changes for patients of nearby surgeons who don't want to wait until 8 am for a clinic that's just downstairs.
Whatever you're calling about, the answer is the same: phone first, walk in if the answer is yes, save the fee if the answer is no.
