Home doctor visits in Melbourne's eastern suburbs — how they actually work

The 30-second answer

Home visits are best for elderly patients, post-procedural patients, and anyone who genuinely cannot leave the house. We attend within a 15-minute drive of Bulleen for $350 + GST per visit, perform the same consult we would in-clinic, and refer onward if anything is more serious than expected.

Home visits are not a luxury or a convenience — they're a clinical decision. There are some patients who simply cannot make it to a clinic at 11 pm, and for those patients, having a doctor come to them is genuinely better care. Here's how the service works.

Who home visits are best for

If you can drive yourself or be driven to the clinic, walking in is usually faster and cheaper. A home visit costs $100 more than a walk-in and takes longer end to end.

What we can do at your home

What we cannot do at your home

If you'd be better cared for in the clinic or in ED, we'll tell you on the phone before we dispatch a doctor. We don't drive out only to send you to hospital — that wastes everyone's time.

The 15-minute service area

Home visits are offered to addresses within roughly a 15-minute drive of 19–21 Manningham Road Bulleen at after-hours speeds. That covers Bulleen, Templestowe, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Lower Plenty, Heidelberg, Ivanhoe, Eaglemont, Rosanna, Viewbank, Kew, Kew East, Balwyn, North Balwyn, Donvale, Park Orchards and adjacent suburbs. Greensborough, Eltham, Warrandyte and Box Hill are on the edge of our radius — phone us first.

How the booking process works

Home visits are phone-first. Call 0403 025 359 and one of our clinicians will:

  1. Take a brief history and triage your problem
  2. Confirm a home visit is the right level of care (versus walk-in or ED)
  3. Quote the $350 + GST fee and confirm payment method
  4. Confirm your address and provide an ETA (usually 60–120 minutes)
  5. Dispatch the on-call doctor

Aged-care and palliative-care visits

We have a working relationship with several aged-care facilities in Doncaster, Templestowe and Ivanhoe. Facilities can call us directly; we will liaise with the patient's family and treating GP, and we always send a letter back to the facility for the morning shift. For palliative-care patients, we can manage symptom control after hours but we won't replace the patient's regular palliative team — we work alongside them.

Fees and how payment works

$350 + GST = $385 total, paid on the night by EFTPOS, debit, credit or contactless. We carry a portable card reader. We don't issue invoices in arrears. Scripts, dressings and consumables (if used) are charged in addition and quoted at the visit.

Tonight, if you're unsure

Phone us. We'll tell you in two minutes whether a home visit, a walk-in, or ED is right for you. The phone call is free and we will never sell you a home visit you don't need.

Tonight, when you need to decide quickly

Save our number now — it's much easier to call when the decision matters.

Frequently asked questions

Do you bulk bill home visits?

No. Manningham After-hours Emergency Care is a fully private clinic. Home visits are $350 + GST ($385 total), paid on the night by card. No Medicare rebate is available and private health insurance does not apply.

What suburbs do you do home visits in?

We cover Bulleen, Templestowe, Doncaster, Doncaster East, Lower Plenty, Heidelberg, Ivanhoe, Eaglemont, Rosanna, Viewbank, Kew, Balwyn, North Balwyn, Donvale and Park Orchards reliably. Greensborough, Eltham, Warrandyte and Box Hill are on the edge of our radius — please phone first to confirm.

Can a home doctor write scripts?

Yes. The face-to-face consultation requirement is satisfied by an in-person home visit, so we can write standard scripts (and S8 medications in genuine clinical need, with SafeScript checking) on the spot.

How long until the doctor arrives?

Typically 60–120 minutes from booking, depending on the doctor's current location and traffic. We'll give you a realistic ETA at the time of booking and call you if anything changes.
